Got up this morning and headed east. Today’s scenery included miles and miles of Canola fields — all the way across Alberta and into Saskatchewan. We lucked out as the flowers started blooming this past week. The word Canola is actually an abbreviation for CANadian Oil Low Acid. Who knew?
Stopped in Vegreville to see the world's biggest pysanka — a traditional Ukrainian Easter egg, get a bite to eat and spent time at the Wanaskewin Heritage Site where we had a great hike and learned about buffalo jumps.
Somewhere along the way, we stopped at an info center where we learned about potash mining. Saskatchewan supplies the US with potash, which is used in farming. While in the info center, we realized that it also served as a senior center. We smelled the scent of coffee and followed it right back to the shuffleboard area where the oldest person (she was well over 90 years old) there had been proclaimed the champion of the day. The group was very friendly and invited us to join them for coffee. We had a really nice conversation with them and it was a wonderful stop.
